“I WANT A HYDRAULIC KING-SIZE MURPHY BED.” WE SAID NO.
Sometimes the correct answer to a customer is no. This client wanted a 180 by 200 centimeter king-size Murphy bed, but specifically wanted a gas-strut system.
We don't specify that type of mechanism above 120 by 200 centimeters. Not because we can't sell something — because we're not going to sell a mechanism we don't believe is suitable for the application.
THE MECHANISM ISN'T A PREFERENCE.
IT'S PART OF THE ENGINEERING - which is why we offer a LIFETIME WARRANTY on our Murphy Mechanisms.
Can You Use a Gas-Strut / Hydraulic Mechanism on Any Size Murphy Bed?
A Murphy bed getting heavier to lift is not the problem.
A mechanism being unsuitable for the size and load is.
For larger Murphy beds — particularly queen and king sizes — CASA-ELAN specifies our spring counterbalance system.
Why?
Because increasing the size of a Murphy bed doesn't simply mean adding a larger mattress. The complete moving assembly becomes larger and heavier: the metal bed frame, mattress, front panels and finishing materials all contribute to the load.
The counterbalance system therefore needs to be selected for the complete engineered application, not simply according to somebody's preference for “gas” or “spring.”
We regularly receive enquiries asking us to supply a gas-strut mechanism for large Murphy beds even after we have explained that it is not a system we recommend or supply for that application.
Our answer is simple:
If CASA-ELAN does not believe a mechanism is appropriate for a particular bed size, we will not sell it simply because a customer insists on it.
We'd rather lose the sale than put our name on a system we don't recommend.
